Artist Statement I hope that those who view my work will appreciate the final ware as an original product along with the final ware as a synthesis of several influences. To a large extent, design arises out of a rich history of research, work, and aesthetics, which the designer then recombines. Nothing is without precedent. As for my output, I draw mostly from Japanese and Korean traditions while incorporating contemporary privileges such as varied clay bodies and heavy reduction firings. I like to think of my work as process based. My hope is that users and viewers will be able to see some part of my hand in each stage of the process from throwing to trimming to glazing. - Matthew Boddum, Studio Potter |
