ARTIST STATEMENT
Michelle Gallagher found a calling in the
theatre arts, where she discovered talent
for creating stage props and sculpting set
pieces, which provided an opportunity to
experiment with a wide variety of
materials.
Gallagher's long time love of clay as a
medium was re-discovered during her 15
years as a prop master serving numerous
northwest coast area theatre companies.
In 1990 she started her business
specializing in "handcrafted oddities."
Years with the theatre and her love of
fantasy and fairy tales have inspired her
interest in the figure and the expressive
abilities of the human form.
She has since concentrated
primarily on figurative sculpture and the
challenge of creating images that express
emotion, ranging from realistic to
whimsical.
Also an avid gardener, she is drawn to
finding ways to integrate her work into
the natural setting out of doors.
Her garden boasts a fanciful
display of characters, peeking out from
amongst the zinnias.
