ARTIST STATEMENT
Due to the intimate
nature of functional pots, I find making
them to be both a complex and satisfying
endeavor. I
draw inspiration from the long tradition
of potters around the world who have
responded to the challenge of making
pots that connect to their daily lives.
The best examples of these
historical pots serve as reminders of
the honesty, vision, passion and
substance of their makers.
I strive to impart these
very qualities in my work; pots which
speak to us of the past and present, to
the heart as well as the intellect.
Even a simple bowl can command
this kind of presence, causing you to
choose it over another dish in the
cupboard. There
is always more to something than meets
the eye; an adage that holds equally
true of pots and people.
In my pottery, I try to
solidify the intangible qualities that
lie beneath my surface; the parts of my
personality that are revealed to some
while remaining veiled to others.
In keeping with who I am, these
subtle qualities are quietly shared
within the orbit of every day life.
As my craft and inner voice
continue to mature together, I hope to
share a sense of continuity, substance,
and generosity through my work.
